The perfect doughnut exists: it is a Maple Bacon Bar (intellectual proprietors: Voodoo Doughnuts, Portland, OR) it consists of a maple bar pasted over with three strips of crisp bacon. It is congruently a consummate culinary achievement and a savagely carnal indulgence. If you think that the perfect doughnut is not an actuality, I suggest you try one... then get on your knees and prepare to thank the fryer gods for their benefaction.
